A new gazette notification has been issued regarding the import of private vehicles in Sri Lanka, effective from yesterday (1st of February).
The extraordinary gazette lifts the temporary ban on importing passenger transport vehicles, special-purpose vehicles, commercial and goods transport vehicles, and private vehicles.
It also removes restrictions on cabs, auto-rickshaws, motorcycles, bicycles, and other special-purpose vehicles.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayake recently announced in Parliament that the vehicle market would be reopened in three phases.
As part of this plan, the import of cars for personal use will resume from 1st of February 2025.
