Cancer vaccine price slashed from Rs. 76,000 to Rs. 370

The recent reduction in the price of a cancer vaccine from Rs. 76,000 to Rs. 370 has been confirmed by medical sources.

In 2018, the maximum retail price (MRP) of the vaccine was Rs. 76,000, but it was lowered to Rs. 54,000 last year.

Under the current government, the price has significantly dropped to Rs. 370 following the introduction of three new suppliers, breaking the monopoly previously held by a single company.

Deputy Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Hansaka Wijemuni, also commented on the matter, revealing that the Ministry of Health destroys billions of rupees worth of expired medicines every month.

These expired drugs are sent to a cement factory in Puttalam for incineration as part of the disposal process.
