Hikkaduwa Police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a 19-year-old Canadian tourist swept away by strong currents near the Hikkaduwa seashore on 16th of January 2025.
Initial findings suggest the tourist ignored warning signs posted in the area, which caution visitors about dangerous swimming conditions.
Search operations are ongoing, with police and navy lifeguards working together to locate the missing individual.
