The Cabinet has approved the construction of two 50-megawatt wind power plants in Mullikulum, Mannar, advancing Sri Lanka’s goal of generating 70% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
This decision follows a February 10, 2025 announcement inviting private-sector developers to submit proposals for the 100MW Mullikulum Wind Power Park, to be implemented under a Build–Own–Operate model with a 20-year monitoring period.
Seven proposals were received through an international competitive bidding process. After careful evaluation and based on recommendations from the Cabinet-appointed negotiation committee, the Cabinet endorsed the Minister of Power’s proposal to award the contracts.
The two 50MW wind power projects will be developed by a consortium of Vidullanka PLC and David Pieris Motor Company (Lanka) Ltd, and by WindForce PLC.
