Cabinet approves salt imports to meet local demand

The Cabinet has granted special approval to temporarily lift restrictions on salt imports, allowing the importation of both iodized and non-iodized salt.

According to the Ministry of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development, the decision was made during the Cabinet meeting held on 15th of May 2025.

The approval, which is valid until 10th of June covers iodized salt for food consumption and non-iodized salt for industrial use.

The move aims to ensure a steady supply of salt in the local market and to prevent shortages affecting both household and industrial needs.
