The Court of Appeal has issued a temporary order suspending election-related activities at the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and several other local councils.
The suspension also applies to the Harispattuwa, Panwila, Pathadumbara, Udapalatha, and Kuliyapitiya Local Councils.
The order follows writ petitions filed by political parties and independent groups challenging the rejection of their nominations.
The Court granted leave to proceed with the petitions, leading to the issuance of the interim order.
The court has directed opposing parties to submit responses by 5th of May with counter-responses due by 7th of May
A review of the petitions is scheduled for May 16th.
The stay order will remain in effect until the petitions are fully heard and decided.
