Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has achieved a major electoral breakthrough, as final results of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 show his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), emerging as the single largest political force in the state.
According to the Election Commission of India, all 234 seats have been declared, with the majority mark set at 118. TVK secured 108 seats in its first-ever electoral contest, narrowly missing an outright majority while firmly establishing its dominance.
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK)-led alliance won 73 seats, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led alliance secured 53 seats. Other parties, including Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK), failed to win any seats.
Despite falling short of the majority threshold, TVK’s performance marks one of the most dramatic political debuts in Tamil Nadu’s history, disrupting the long-standing dominance of the DMK and AIADMK.
Vijay’s rise has been driven by strong backing from youth and urban voters, along with a campaign focused on change and anti-establishment messaging.
With 108 seats, TVK is now in a strong position to form the next government, depending on post-election alliances or external support. Addressing supporters, Vijay described the outcome as a “people’s victory” and the beginning of a new political era in Tamil Nadu.
