A bus carrying 20 Sri Lankan youths working in Israel’s agricultural sector caught fire near Kiryat Malakhi on the morning of July 18, according to Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Israel, Nimal Bandara.

The fire completely destroyed the bus, but all passengers escaped unharmed by breaking the windows, as the door was blocked due to the flames.

One individual sustained a leg injury while escaping and has been admitted to hospital; his condition is not serious, the Ambassador confirmed.

Israeli authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.

The remaining members of the group have since returned to their normal daily routines.

Ambassador Bandara wished the injured youth a speedy recovery and praised the quick thinking that helped avoid a major tragedy.
