Bird flu detected ,Chicken warning for Victorians

A Victorian farm has been quarantined after tests confirmed the presence of the H7N8 bird flu virus in northern Victoria.

This strain is different from the one that affected poultry farms last year, which caused millions of dollars in losses.

Victoria’s acting chief veterinarian stated that a 5km control zone has been established around the farm to contain the outbreak.

Authorities are taking immediate action to remove infected chickens from the market and implement necessary containment measures.

Last week, the federal government announced a $100 million investment in the H5 bird flu vaccine, as the virus spreads rapidly worldwide.

Meanwhile, Australia remains the only continent where the recent H5N1 outbreak has not been detected.
