A draft bill to repeal the Presidential Entitlements Act No. 4 of 1986, which grants special privileges to former Presidents and their families, will be presented to Parliament following Cabinet approval.
This move is part of the government’s policy outlined in “A Prosperous Country – A Beautiful Life,” aiming to remove exclusive benefits currently enjoyed by former heads of state and their families.
The Cabinet approved the drafting of the repeal bill on June 16, 2025, after which the Legal Draftsman prepared the Presidential Entitlements (Repeal) Bill.
The Attorney General has cleared the draft bill, and the Cabinet has authorized the Minister of Justice and National Integration to publish it in the Government Gazette.
Following its publication, the bill will be submitted to Parliament for further consideration and approval.
