Former Victorian Deputy Premier Ben Carroll is set to become the state’s new Premier, following Jacinta Allan’s resignation.
The 51-year-old Labor MP was elected as the party’s new leader after a turbulent caucus meeting.
Carroll, who has represented the Melbourne seat of Niddrie since 2012, previously served as Education Minister and Deputy Premier.
His leadership comes just months before the Victorian state election, with Labor facing growing pressure to retain government.
The incoming Premier has highlighted community safety, economic growth and making Victoria more open for business as key priorities.
Ben Carroll will now lead the Victorian Labor Party into the November election, promising a fresh direction for the state.
