Bandaranaike lnternational Airport installs 20 new self-check-in kiosks

Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) has installed 20 additional self-service check-in kiosks to enhance efficiency and passenger experience.

Passenger traffic at BIA rose 16% to five million in the first half of 2025, with total traffic projected to reach 14 million by 2027. To accommodate this growth, the 20 new kiosks complement the existing eight units and are paired with a self-bag-drop facility.

The kiosks aim to reduce waiting times during peak periods, enabling passengers to complete the entire check-in process independently, including flight check-in, seat selection, and printing of boarding passes and bag tags. After this, travelers can conveniently drop their luggage at the self-bag-drop facility and proceed directly to boarding gates following emigration clearance.

Additionally, starting last week, passengers departing from BIA are allowed to check in up to four hours before their scheduled flight, further improving passenger flow and the overall travel experience, airport authorities said.
