
Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Anura Karunathilake stated today that both Bandaranaike International Airport and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport are fully prepared to accommodate any flights bound for the Middle East that may request emergency landings.
He said that the assistance of the Sri Lanka Air Force will be obtained if necessary to manage such situations effectively.
The Minister further noted that several flights which departed from various international airports to BIA and Mattala have been diverted to alternative destinations. He assured that steps are being taken to bring the affected passengers back to Bandaranaike International Airport and Mattala Airport as soon as possible.
