The Dematagoda Police yesterday informed Colombo Additional Magistrate Kasun Kanchana Dissanayake about the discovery of a deceased infant found abandoned in a train carriage that had traveled from Puttalam to Colombo.
Police stated that the infant’s body, believed to be several days old, was found by a janitor from the Railways Department while cleaning the lavatory of the train.
The janitor immediately reported the discovery to the Dematagoda Police.
Following the submission of facts, the Additional Magistrate ordered a post-mortem examination of the infant’s remains.
The Magistrate also directed that a detailed report of the findings be submitted to the court.
