AWC alerts on dogs used as bait to attract leopards for tourism

The Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC) has raised alarms over the disturbing practice of using dogs as bait to lure leopards for tourist viewing in national parks.

An AWC official condemned the act as unnatural and unethical, emphasizing that while leopards may naturally hunt dogs, deliberately providing them as bait for tourism is disruptive to their habitat.

Videos circulating on social media have shown staged events where dogs are used to attract leopards, with safari jeep drivers profiting from the close encounters with tourists.

Despite numerous objections, this practice continues, raising concerns about the long-term effects on wildlife and ecosystems.

The AWC also warned that feeding wild animals artificially could lead to overpopulation, threatening both animals and humans.

The coalition has called for the creation of a national policy to protect wildlife and preserve natural habitats, urging authorities to investigate the incidents and put an end to these unethical practices.
