Authorities seize gold from bank safe linked to Podi Lassie’s in-law

The Illegal Assets Investigation Division has seized a stock of suspected gold jewellery belonging to the mother-in-law of underworld figure Arumahandi Janith Madushanka Silva, also known as ‘Podi Lassie’, from a bank safe in Ambalangoda.

Police confirmed that the investigation was initiated under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, focusing on Podi Lassie and his immediate family members.

Following a court order, officers recovered 1.112 kilograms of gold from the bank locker.

Authorities suspect the jewellery may have been acquired through the proceeds of criminal activities.

The seized items have been taken into custody for further examination.

Police say investigations are ongoing to trace the origins of the assets and establish any links to illicit financial transactions.
