Authorities seize 56,870 smuggled prescription drugs in Mannar

During a search operation in the early hours of October 6th of 2025, the Sri Lanka Navy apprehended a suspect along with a dinghy and a consignment of 56,870 prescription drugs (capsules and tablets), as well as spices and cosmetics, being smuggled near Keeri Beach in Mannar.

The Navy, remaining vigilant, continues to conduct regular coastal patrols and search operations to prevent illegal activities, including smuggling via sea routes.

In a related operation, the Naval Detachment Thalpadu of SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command intercepted a suspicious dinghy approaching Keeri Beach, resulting in the seizure of the prescription drugs, spices, and cosmetics.

The suspect, identified as a resident of the Thalpadu area in Mannar, along with the seized items and dinghy, was handed over to the Customs Office in Jaffna for further legal proceedings.
