The International Education Association of Australia (IEAA) is urging politicians to provide adequate support for international education in the country.
With over 4,000 members, the association has reportedly made several demands to the government that will come to power after the upcoming federal election.
IEAA is confident that the new government will support key themes such as integrating skills for economic development and using diplomatic influence to foster community cohesion.
It has also introduced new international strategies for the development of international education over the next decade.
Despite recent laws restricting international recruitment, the association is calling on the federal government to ensure fair and effective decisions for education providers.
It emphasizes the need for a government that adequately funds international education.
IEAA is also advocating for increased investment in international education, similar to the financial and other support provided to the tourism sector.
With Australia recently increasing its student visa application fee from $710 to $1,600—the highest in the world—the association is urging the government to reduce this fee by 50% for international students enrolling in short courses.
