Australia’s job market is facing tougher conditions, but one sector is seeing a dramatic surge in demand.

New SEEK data shows overall job advertisements fell 0.4 per cent in July and were down 6 per cent compared with last year.

At the same time, applications per job have reached a record high, partly driven by AI tools making it easier to apply for multiple jobs.

However, jobs linked to the construction, design and maintenance of data centres are rapidly increasing.

This comes despite concerns from communities and politicians about the environmental impact and high electricity use of data center.

In South Australia, data-centre-related job advertisements have reportedly more than tripled compared with the previous year, highlighting the sector’s growing demand.
