Thousands of skilled migration hopefuls across Australia are waiting for the opening of the 2026–27 State Nomination programs, but several major states have not yet started accepting new Registrations of Interest, or ROIs, as of July 31.

Victoria has confirmed that its 2026–27 Skilled Visa Nomination program for Subclass 190 and Subclass 491 visas is not yet open, with applicants advised to wait for official updates on new rules and opening dates.

South Australia has also paused Skilled ROI and General Skilled Migration applications, saying eligible candidates will be able to submit new ROIs once the 2026–27 program begins.

Tasmania has received 2,050 state nomination places for the new migration year, including 1,250 places for Subclass 190 and 800 places for Subclass 491 visas, with registrations expected to open in the coming weeks.

Authorities say new eligibility requirements, occupation priorities and application guidelines will be announced before programs officially open.

Migration experts are advising applicants to keep their SkillSelect EOI, English test results, skills assessments and supporting documents updated, and to rely only on official government announcements rather than unverified social media information.
