Australian Teen Pilot Becomes Youngest to Fly Around the World

A 15-year-old pilot from Australia has embarked on a record-breaking journey in a bid to become the youngest person to fly solo around the world.

Byron Waller, from Brisbane, began his ambitious adventure this morning, setting off on a flight that will take him across 30 countries and all seven continents. The journey, covering approximately 45,000 kilometers, is expected to take around two months to complete.

Waller’s passion for aviation began about a decade ago, sparked by the thrill of an unexpected flight experience. Two years ago, he began formal pilot training, which ultimately enabled him to achieve a long-held dream last year—becoming the youngest person to fly around Australia.

However, Waller also faces a personal challenge. Last year, he was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a chronic condition that affects the digestive system. He says part of his mission is to show other children living with the illness that no challenge should stand in the way of achieving their goals.

“I want to prove that nothing—not even Crohn’s disease—should stop you from chasing your dreams,” Waller said before takeoff.
