Australian Deputy Prime Minister arrives on official visit

Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Richard Marles arrived in Sri Lanka on an official visit accompanied by a 15-member delegation.

The delegation landed at Katunayake Airport on the night of 2nd of June aboard a special aircraft operated by the Australian Ministry of Defence.

Deputy Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Sunil Watagala, along with other officials, welcomed the delegation at the airport.

During his visit, Deputy Prime Minister Marles is scheduled to pay courtesy calls on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vijitha Herath.

He will also meet Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, who will attend a special luncheon in his honour hosted at Australia House.

Additionally, Marles will engage in bilateral discussions with Sri Lanka’s Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General (Retd) Aruna Jayasekara.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the visit is focused on strengthening bilateral ties and enhancing defence cooperation between Australia and Sri Lanka .
