An Australian Defence Official has met with the Sri Lanka Navy Commander to strengthen defence ties between the two countries and discuss areas of mutual interest.
Assistant Secretary, North and South Asia Branch, Australian Department of Defence, Ms Karen Radford met with the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Vice Admiral Damian Fernando, at the Naval Headquarters in Colombo on 30 July 2026.
During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, reflecting the existing defence cooperation between Australia and Sri Lanka.
The focus was on maintaining a strong bilateral relationship and enhancing cooperation in areas of shared strategic interest.
Highlighting Australia’s continued commitment to the security partnership with Sri Lanka, the Australian Defence Attaché at the Australian High Commission in Sri Lanka, Colonel Amanda Johnston, also attended the meeting.
The visit concluded with the exchange of mementos between Ms Radford and Vice Admiral Fernando, symbolising the strong and friendly relationship between the two defence establishments and their commitment to future cooperation.
