Australian bank launches numberless credit cards to fight scams

Numberless debit and credit cards will soon become available across Australia as part of a new initiative by AMP Bank to combat scams.

AMP has partnered with Mastercard to launch Australia’s first domestic numberless card, set to roll out in February this year.

These cards will not display the traditional 16-digit number, reducing the risk of scammers and fraudsters stealing and misusing card details.

Cardholders can access their unique card details securely via the AMP app, which features additional layers of security.

Payments will be made using digital tokens, which are either single-use or limited-use, further enhancing security against fraud.

AMP’s upgraded banking app will include advanced fraud protection features, such as requiring video selfies during sign-up to tackle identity theft.

Richard Wormald, Division President of Australasia at Mastercard, emphasized that numberless cards represent a next-generation solution for protecting banking customers from common scams.
