Australian authorities are preparing to impose heavy fines on technology companies that expose children to pornography and violence online.
The government plans to introduce a new code enforcement program aimed at strengthening laws that restrict children’s access to harmful content on technology platforms.
These new codes, designed to protect children from online abuse, have been submitted to the eSafety Commissioner, and it is expected that the laws will be enforced once approved.
Under the new regulations, any violator will face fines of up to $50 million.
The code will apply to a wide range of online services, including social media platforms, messaging services, search engines, and apps.
Additionally, the laws will target manufacturers and suppliers of devices that access the internet, such as smart devices and computers, as well as hosting service providers.
Australian authorities emphasize the importance of protecting children from harmful behaviors, including suicide, self-harm, and pornography addiction.
The Australian government has confirmed that the legislation will come into effect later this year.
