
Australia secured a place in the Super 6s of the 2026 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Japan in their second match yesterday.
After winning the toss, Japan chose to bat first, with Tani-Kelly anchoring their innings with an unbeaten 79, setting Australia a target of 202 runs.
Australia got off to a strong start thanks to an impressive opening partnership of 135 runs in 15 overs between Will Malajchuk and Nitesh Samuel. Malajchuk scored a blistering century off just 51 balls—the fastest in ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup history—finishing with 102 off 55 balls and providing Australia with the momentum to chase down the target. Samuel remained unbeaten on 60, helping secure the win.
From the Japanese side, Steve Hogan scored 15 runs, while Thomas Hogan remained not out on 19.
Australia will face Sri Lanka in their next match, scheduled for next Friday.
