Australia has announced AUD 2 million to support Sri Lanka’s proposed Wolbachia Project aimed at controlling dengue.,

The funding was announced by Tim Watts during his official visit to Sri Lanka.
The project will be implemented by the World Mosquito Program in partnership with Save the Children.
The Wolbachia method, pioneered in Australia by the Monash University, has already helped reduce dengue transmission across Asia, Latin America and the Pacific.
Australian officials said dengue continues to place a heavy burden on families, communities and healthcare services in Sri Lanka.
The initiative highlights the growing Australia–Sri Lanka partnership in public health, innovation and regional cooperation.
