South Australia has launched its first-ever Space Day Out to inspire young people to dream about careers in space.

In response, around 2,000 visitors attended the event at the Australian Space Discovery Centre in Adelaide.

At the event, Australian astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg encouraged students to study science, technology, engineering and mathematics, known as STEM.

And also, Bennell-Pegg said Australia needs more young people to pursue careers in these fields.

The event highlighted the growing importance of the space industry to Australia’s economy and future workforce.

As a result of organisers hope the event will inspire the next generation of Australian scientists, engineers and astronauts.
