The Migration Amendment (Visa Application Charges) Regulations 2025 introduces revised visa application charges (VACs), effective from 1st of July 2025, in line with the Australian Government’s annual indexation policy.
Most visa application fees will see a 3% increase, reflecting the 2023–2024 Consumer Price Index (CPI), as outlined in the latest Federal Budget.
In addition to the general increase, the base application charge for the Subclass 500 (Student) visa and the Subclass 590 (Student Guardian) visa will rise significantly—from $1,600 to $2,000. This targeted adjustment is part of the Government’s Building Australia’s Future plan, aimed at strengthening the integrity of the international education system.
Exemptions from these increased charges will continue for applicants from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste, reaffirming Australia’s commitment to regional cooperation and equitable educational access.
These changes, enacted under the Migration Regulations 1994, are designed to ensure the sustainability of Australia’s visa program while supporting key international partnerships.
