The Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Matthew Duckworth, highlighted the strong ties between Australia and Sri Lanka in the fields of education and cricket during a meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat on March 23.
The discussions took place between Chief of Staff to the President Prabath Chandrakeerthi and the High Commissioner, focusing on further strengthening long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Both sides explored opportunities to expand education and employment pathways for Sri Lankans in Australia, while also reaffirming their commitment to jointly combat human smuggling and drug trafficking in the Indian Ocean region.
High Commissioner Duckworth also expressed Australia’s readiness to support Sri Lanka in key sectors such as education, agriculture and sustainable development, noting that the ongoing Middle East conflict has had an impact on Australia as well.
