

The Commander of the Australian Joint Agency Task Force, Operation Sovereign Borders, and Maritime Border Command, Rear Admiral Brett Sonter, ceremonially handed over 12 surveillance drones to the Director General of the Sri Lanka Coast Guard, Rear Admiral Rohan Joseph, at a ceremony held at Coast Guard Headquarters in Mirissa.

The event was attended by the Australian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Matthew Duckworth, along with First Secretary Inspector Paul Edwards from the Australian High Commission.
The handover marked the transfer of advanced surveillance equipment aimed at strengthening maritime safety and security, while also highlighting the close cooperation between Australia and Sri Lanka in managing maritime borders.
Officials noted that the long-standing partnership between the Australian Border Force and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard continues to grow through joint initiatives, reflecting a shared commitment to maintaining safe and secure maritime environments.
During the visit, both sides also held discussions on future cooperation and expanded collaboration between the Sri Lanka Coast Guard and the Australian Border Force.
