Selector’s Statement

Chair of men’s selectors, George Bailey, stated that the squad has undergone significant changes due to injuries and the recent retirement of Marcus Stoinis.

“The positive aspect is that we have been able to bring in players who have had international exposure and success over the past 12 months,” Bailey said.

“With a solid core of experienced players, we believe this squad provides a strong foundation to compete for the Champions Trophy title. We also have flexibility in our playing XI based on the conditions and opposition we face.”

Mitchell Starc Withdraws
Fast bowler Mitchell Starc has withdrawn from the tournament due to personal reasons. He will also be unavailable for the two-game ODI series in Sri Lanka leading into the Champions Trophy. Cricket Australia fully supports Starc’s decision, and his reasons will remain private.

Bailey expressed his admiration for Starc’s commitment to international cricket.

“Mitch has always put Australia first, often playing through pain and adversity. His absence is a loss for the team, but it creates an opportunity for another player to step up.”

Starc has requested privacy regarding his decision and will not be making any public comment.
