Australia and China discuss security issues

Australia’s defense forces emphasized to China the need to follow international maritime law under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

The 23rd Australia-China Defense Strategic Dialogue took place in Beijing, where both nations discussed bilateral, regional, and global security concerns.

Key topics included defense transparency, communication, and measures to prevent conflicts between their military forces.

Senior officials from Australia’s Defense Department and China’s People’s Liberation Army participated in the dialogue.

An Australian defense official highlighted the importance of all countries acting professionally and safely to prevent miscalculations and potential conflicts.

Australia also reiterated that respecting national sovereignty is essential for maintaining peace, security, and stability.

The talks come amid heightened tensions after a Chinese warship and two jets recently passed through Australian international waters, putting security forces on high alert.
