Australians are expressing frustration over some of the new questions included in the 2026 Census.

The Census, which takes place on August 11, includes 66 questions covering areas such as health, employment, ancestry, gender and sexual orientation.

Some Australians have criticised the changes online, with social media users mocking the form and even claiming they would tear it up.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics says the new questions are designed to provide a more accurate picture of modern Australia.

The Census is compulsory, and people who fail to complete it after being directed to do so can face financial penalties.

Officials say Census information is confidential and will help governments plan services including healthcare, education, transport and infrastructure.
