A 57-year-old woman from Perth, Australia, has lost nearly $800,000 to scammers posing as fake lovers.
After divorcing in 2018, she turned to a dating app, unknowingly becoming a target for fraudsters.
She first connected with a man named “William,” who gained her trust over several months before deceiving her and taking her money.
In 2022, she met another man, “Nelson,” who also tricked her and defrauded her of more money.
As a result, she lost her retirement savings and proceeds from selling her house.
Meanwhile, Australia has reported around 3,200 similar scams in the past year, with victims collectively losing nearly $24 million.
