A test message from Australia’s new national emergency warning system, AusAlert, has been sent to mobile phones across Victoria and other parts of Australia.

The message, reading “TEST MESSAGE – AUSALERT,” was not a real emergency warning and there is no need for the public to panic or take any action.

The national test was conducted ahead of the official launch of the AusAlert system, which is scheduled to begin operating in October 2026.

People who did not receive the test alert also do not need to be concerned. Possible reasons include an incompatible mobile phone, outdated software, or the device not being connected to a mobile tower at the time of the test.

According to the official AusAlert website, people who did not receive the test message do not need to take any action at this stage.

However, authorities say that if you receive a genuine AusAlert message during a real emergency in the future, you should carefully follow the instructions provided to help keep yourself and others safe.

Did you receive the AusAlert test message on your phone?
