The four astronauts of Artemis II said their mission gave the world a renewed sense of hope and unity at a time when both feel increasingly rare.

At their first NASA news conference since returning, Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen reflected on how they began the journey as friends but returned as a deeply bonded crew shaped by an extraordinary shared experience.
They said the mission went beyond technical achievements, reminding them of fundamental human emotions such as joy, laughter, tears, and a shared instinct for connection that transcends national borders.
Wiseman said the crew’s goal had been to inspire global unity, adding that they were moved by the worldwide response and gratitude for the mission.
He praised the Orion spacecraft and the Space Launch System as powerful symbols of international collaboration and engineering excellence.
The Artemis II mission carried astronauts farther from Earth than any humans had previously travelled, including a historic lunar flyby that marked several firsts for space exploration.
Christina Koch described how emotional it was to realise the mission’s impact on people back home, saying it reinforced the meaning of their achievement.
Victor Glover emphasised that the mission belonged not only to the crew but to humanity as a whole, highlighting the shared effort behind the journey.
Jeremy Hansen said seeing Earth from deep space strengthened his belief in human goodness and the potential for unity despite global challenges.
The crew also described moments of overwhelming awe, including views of the Moon and Earth that were difficult to fully express in words.
Despite the challenges of space travel, including technical issues aboard the spacecraft, the astronauts said the experience remained profoundly inspiring.
Wiseman said that once in lunar orbit, the idea of landing on the Moon felt less distant than ever, suggesting that future missions may be closer than people think.
The crew concluded that Artemis II demonstrated humanity’s ability to achieve near-impossible goals through cooperation, resilience, and shared purpose.
