The Colombo High Court has issued a warrant for the arrest and production of former minister Wimal Weerawansa after he failed to appear in court.
The warrant was issued in connection with a case filed by the Bribery Commission over allegations that Weerawansa illegally amassed assets valued at more than Rs. 75 million.
Wimal Weerawansa has been named as the defendant in the case.
Issuing the order, Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihail also directed that notices be served on the defendant’s bail guarantors, requiring them to appear before the court on the next hearing date.
