Former MP Ramanathan Archchuna has made a controversial political prediction regarding Sri Lanka’s long-standing ethnic issues, expressing confidence that a member of the Rajapaksa family could play a significant role in resolving them.
Speaking publicly, Archchuna said he believes a son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa—apparently referring to Namal Rajapaksa—will emerge as a major political figure during the 2029 election cycle.
He claimed that the next generation of Rajapaksa leadership could help bring a lasting solution to the political and social divisions between the Sinhala and Tamil communities that have persisted for decades.
According to Archchuna, such leadership could create an opportunity to address unresolved issues and promote greater national unity.
“I believe that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son will come forward in 2029 and bring the Tamil-Sinhala issue to an end,” he stated.
His remarks have attracted attention as Sri Lanka continues discussions on reconciliation, national unity, and long-term political solutions to ethnic concerns.
