Apple has partnered with Japanese luxury fashion house Issey Miyake to launch a 3D-knitted iPhone carrying bag, designed to resemble a sock. This limited-edition accessory draws inspiration from minimalist design principles.
The special-edition iPhone Pocket will be released globally on November 14, according to Business Insider. It will be available in two versions: a short model priced at $150 and a long model priced at $230. The long version can be worn crossbody, while the short version can be attached to a bag or worn around the wrist.
The short strap model comes in eight colors: lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black, whereas the long strap is limited to peacock, sapphire, and black.
Apple explained that the collaboration with Issey Miyake reflects their shared philosophy of minimalist design, emphasizing simplicity and functionality. The iPhone Pocket was inspired by Miyake’s “piece of cloth” concept, according to Apple’s website.
Issey Miyake was also the designer behind Steve Jobs’ iconic black turtleneck, which Jobs originally intended as Apple’s uniform before adopting it as his personal signature look. Following Jobs’ death in 2011, Miyake retired the turtleneck as a tribute.
Fashion writer Tiffany Lo told CNET that the iPhone Pocket “could appeal to younger generations thanks to the design that allows users to wear it as a crossbody.”
This collaboration marks Apple’s second product targeting Gen Z’s wearable-tech fashion trend, following the release of a $59 crossbody strap alongside its new iPhone lineup in September.
