Apple has agreed to settle a shareholder lawsuit for US$250 million after facing allegations linked to delays in introducing artificial intelligence upgrades to its Siri voice assistant.
The lawsuit, filed in a California federal court by shareholder Peter Landsheft in 2024, claimed that Apple misled investors after announcing major AI-powered Siri upgrades during its annual developer conference that year. The company had promoted the features as part of its new iPhone lineup, but the devices were released without the promised upgrades.
Plaintiffs argued that the delays negatively affected shareholders, particularly after Apple later confirmed that the AI overhaul for Siri would not be released until 2026. Company executives have since stated that the new Siri features are expected to be unveiled at Apple’s annual developer conference next month.
Apple did not admit wrongdoing as part of the settlement, which still requires court approval.
In a statement, the company said it had already released several other AI features since launching its “Apple Intelligence” platform in 2024. Apple added that it decided to settle the claims in order to remain focused on delivering innovative products and services to customers.
