The Court of Appeal has overturned the Colombo High Court’s decision to acquit former MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena in a major corruption case.

The case concerns an alleged Rs. 883 million financial loss to the state during Gunawardena’s tenure as CEO of Mihin Lanka.
The Appeals Court ruled that the previous acquittal was legally unsound and failed to properly evaluate the evidence.
As a result, the Court has ordered the Colombo High Court to conduct a fresh trial in the case.
The retrial will give the prosecution another opportunity to present its case against the former parliamentarian.
