Anuradhapura doctor rape: suspect identified as Army deserter

The suspect involved in the alleged rape of a female doctor at the doctors’ quarters of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital has been identified as an army deserter, according to Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala in Parliament today (11th).

Minister Wijepala announced that five police teams have been deployed to track down and arrest the suspect.

The incident, which occurred on Monday night (10th), has sparked widespread outrage, with doctors at the hospital going on strike to demand swift justice.

Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa also condemned the attack in Parliament, raising concerns over the safety of female doctors in public hospitals. He called for immediate government action and proposed stricter laws to punish such crimes.

As the police investigation continues, authorities face mounting pressure to ensure justice is served quickly for the victim.
