Another person arrested in connection with massive Tangalle drug seizure

Another individual connected to a major drug haul in Seenimodara, Tangalle, has been arrested by the Tangalle Divisional Crime Investigation Unit. The suspect, known as ‘Beliatta Sanaa’, was taken into custody on 1st of October police said.

Recently, authorities seized over 700 kilograms of heroin and crystal methamphetamine (‘Ice’) hidden in three lorries in Seenimodara. The drugs, smuggled into Sri Lanka from abroad, were reportedly being prepared for further transportation.

The consignment is believed to belong to a foreign-based trafficker named ‘Unakuruwa Shantha’. Police have launched a special operation to apprehend those involved in drug trafficking in the country. ‘Beliatta Sanaa’ is said to be a close associate of the main suspect, known as “Bhoomithelā.”

Investigators also discovered another residence in Marakolliya, Tangalle, reportedly used by the traffickers to store narcotics.

Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe stated that all drug trafficking and related crimes in the country will be addressed swiftly and decisively. He made the remarks while attending an event at the Hatton Labour District Office.
