Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said that an investigation is underway into another payment issue involving USD 625,000 remitted from Sri Lanka to the United States Postal Service, after U.S. authorities informed local officials that the funds had not been received.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists regarding the recently reported diversion of USD 2.5 million in Treasury funds allegedly linked to a cyber fraud.
Addressing the postal payment matter, Jayatissa said the Criminal Investigation Department and the Department of Posts are conducting parallel investigations into the incident.
He added that initial findings suggest the transactions were carried out on two separate occasions.
“Sri Lanka has made the payment, but the U.S. Postal Service has informed us that it has not received the funds,” the minister said.
Jayatissa further noted that investigations into the matter began several weeks ago and that separate state-level probes are also underway into other alleged incidents of malpractice.
He said he could not confirm whether the issue is connected to the Treasury cyber fraud case, but stressed that an active investigation is continuing.
