Amazon has made a last-minute bid to purchase TikTok ahead of a looming US ban, a Trump administration official confirmed.
The offer was sent in a letter to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
President Donald Trump had previously granted TikTok a temporary reprieve from the ban, despite a Supreme Court ruling that upheld the measure for national security reasons.
Under the law, TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, must sell the platform to an approved buyer or shut down operations in the US.
While Trump has hinted at another extension, he expects a deal to be finalized by Saturday.
Several potential buyers, including Oracle, Blackstone, and investor-led consortiums, have expressed interest in acquiring TikTok’s US operations.
The FBI and the Federal Communications Commission have raised concerns that ByteDance could share user data with the Chinese government, though TikTok has denied these allegations.
Neither Amazon nor TikTok has commented on the latest bid.
