The Amadyapa Maha Sabha, led by its Chairman Most Venerable Dr. Ittapane Dhammalankara Thera, has launched specialized programs on Buddhist Psychology, Drug Prevention, and Counseling at its newly established headquarters in Thalapatpitiya, Sri Jayewardenepura.
Sri Lanka Temperance Council National Organizer Ruben Wickramarachchi said the new facility, located at No. 79, Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital Road, was established on land provided by the Government of Sri Lanka.
As its first initiative, a drug counseling program for individuals struggling with addiction will be held on September 13, 2025, from 2.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. The session will take place under the patronage of the Sabha’s Deputy Chairman, Most Venerable Pathberiya Wimalagnana Thero, with technical guidance from Specialist Dr. Anula Wijesundara, Attorney-at-Law Sakya Nanayakkara, and General Secretary Mahendra Jayasinghe.
The program will provide counseling to 24 identified drug addicts referred by the Mirihana, Welikada, Wellampitiya, and Malabe police divisions, under the supervision of Senior DIG (Western South) Sanjeewa Dharmaratne and Senior SSP Mangala Dehideniya. The Sabha also announced plans to gradually expand the initiative nationwide.
Built with contributions from members and sponsors, the headquarters will function as a hub for Buddhist psychology training, drug prevention, rehabilitation programs, and administration.
The Amadyapa Maha Sabha, which operates entirely on a voluntary basis, has invited individuals and organizations to support its mission of creating a Sri Lanka free from alcohol and drug abuse.
