Air India flight with over 242 passengers crashes at Ahmedabad Airport

An Air India flight (AI-171) from Ahmedabad to London crashed during take-off at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday evening.

The incident occurred during routine operations on the tarmac, triggering an immediate emergency response.

The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services Department deployed more than five fire-fighting vehicles to the site.

A senior fire official confirmed that fire control measures were being carried out as a precaution, and emergency teams were on-site for response and assessment.

The aircraft, with a capacity of 300, had 290 passengers on board at the time of the incident, and several injuries have been reported.

Local residents in Meghaninagar reported hearing three loud explosions followed by smoke rising from the airport area.

The cause of the crash and the extent of damage to the aircraft have not yet been officially confirmed.

Airport authorities have launched an internal investigation, and a technical team is currently assessing the situation.

Roads leading to the airport have been temporarily closed to ensure safety and allow emergency operations.

Further details are awaited from Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
