
The President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), Jin Liqun, has reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development, with a strong emphasis on promoting the green energy sector.
According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), Jin Liqun made these remarks during a meeting with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday morning (07th).
The AIIB delegation, led by Jin Liqun and senior management officials, reviewed the progress of ongoing projects funded by the bank in Sri Lanka. Liqun expressed AIIB’s willingness to continue partnering with the country to support its overall development efforts.
He noted that future assistance from the AIIB will prioritize green energy, green transportation, and energy stability, aligning with Sri Lanka’s sustainable development goals.
President Dissanayake, in turn, briefed the delegation on Sri Lanka’s improving economic conditions, highlighting declining interest rates, stable inflation, and the government’s focus on ensuring that the benefits of growth reach the public.
He also outlined plans to restructure the public sector and enhance efficiency through Artificial Intelligence and digitalization, aimed at bridging the urban-rural divide and improving international business transactions.
The President further explained government initiatives to attract foreign investment, including the development of a low-cost electricity zone and the establishment of a data centre, alongside programs to boost productivity in agriculture and fisheries.
In addition, President Dissanayake updated the delegation on ongoing reforms in the education sector.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Labour and Deputy Minister of Economic Development Dr. Anil Jayantha Fernando, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, Senior Additional Secretary to the President R. Aponsu, and other senior officials.
