U.S. President Donald Trump has faced criticism from members of the Catholic community after sharing an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the Pope.
The image was posted on official White House social media platforms at a sensitive time, as Catholics around the world mourn the passing of Pope Francis, who died on 21st of April and prepare for the election of a new pontiff.
The New York State Catholic Conference strongly condemned the post, accusing President Trump of showing disrespect toward the Catholic faith.
The controversy was further fueled by Trump’s recent remarks to reporters, where he stated, “I’d like to be Pope,” just days before the image was shared.
